Tattoo Placement Visualizer: See the Size on a Body Outline
A number of inches does not tell you much until you see it against a body. This tattoo placement visualizer draws an outline at the right scale on a simple front or back figure, based on your height, your chosen placement and the width and height of the tattoo you are considering.
Drag the outline to nudge it, compare it with the typical design area for that spot, and drop in your own design image to see it inside the shape. Everything stays in your browser, and it is meant as a planning aid to bring to a professional tattoo artist.
How it works
Using the tattoo placement visualizer
- 1
Enter your height
Type your height in inches or centimeters so the body outline is scaled to you, not to a generic figure.
- 2
Choose a placement and size
Pick an area such as the forearm or shoulder, then enter the tattoo's width and height in inches or centimeters.
- 3
Position the outline
Drag the outline or use the arrow keys to nudge it. Switch between front and back, left and right, oval or rectangle.
- 4
Add your design (optional)
Upload a design image to see it inside the shape. It stays on your device and is never uploaded.
What you get
Built for real tattoo planning
Scaled to your height
The body outline grows or shrinks with your height entry, so a 3-inch design looks the size it would on a person your height.
Front and back views
Switch views for placements on the chest, back or either side, with left and right sides for paired areas like arms and legs.
Drag and nudge
Move the outline with a finger, mouse or arrow keys and re-center with one tap to compare positions.
Typical area guide
A dashed box shows the approximate design area for the chosen placement so you can see how your size relates to it.
Your own image
Upload a PNG, JPG, WebP or GIF up to 10 MB and see it drawn inside the outline. Nothing leaves your browser.
Plain-language fit note
See your design as a percent of the area's width and height, with a reminder that real fit depends on the individual.
Ideas
Examples and ways to use it
Checking a forearm piece
Enter a 2 by 5 inch design on the forearm and see how much of the typical area it covers before you commit to that length.
Testing a tiny wrist design
Try a 1 by 1.5 inch symbol on the wrist and look at how small it feels compared with the area.
Sizing a shoulder piece
Place a 5 inch oval on the shoulder and drag it toward the arm or chest to compare positions.
Showing your sketch to a friend
Upload your own drawing, put it on the outline at scale and share the screen to talk through size.
Tips
Get better results
- Enter your real height for the most useful scale.
- Try a couple of sizes for the same design. It is easier to judge the difference on the outline than on paper.
- Use the zoom toggle to see fine details up close, and turn it off to see the whole body for perspective.
- The outline is flat and simplified. Real bodies curve, and designs on curved areas look different from the side.
- Test a rectangle for lettering and an oval for round motifs.
- Save a screenshot for your consultation. Your artist can suggest changes to size and position.
What the visualizer can and cannot show
The figure is a neutral, average-proportion silhouette. It cannot reflect your exact build, and skin curves, folds and movement all change how a design appears in person. Treat the result as a scale reference, not a photo of the outcome.
If you are unsure what size to try, start with the tattoo size calculator, which shows area, category and placement fit. The placement guide explains the shapes and considerations for each area. When you are ready to create something, the tattoo generator can produce concepts sized to a small, medium or large idea.
A tattoo artist will look at your body directly and can recommend the right position and size. Use this tool to arrive at the conversation prepared.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How does the visualizer know the right scale?
It scales the body outline from your height, then draws your tattoo's width and height in the same units. Everything is in proportion to the figure, but bodies vary, so it is an approximation.
Is my uploaded design saved anywhere?
No. The image is shown in your browser only and is never uploaded or stored. Closing or refreshing the page removes it.
Can I see the tattoo on my own photo?
Not in this tool. It uses a neutral body outline so nothing personal is needed. Use it for scale, then ask your artist about how the design will look on you.
What file types can I upload?
PNG, JPG, WebP and GIF images up to 10 MB. If a file is too large or unsupported you will see a message.
Why does my design seem small or large compared with the dashed box?
The dashed box shows an approximate design area for that placement, based on general sizes. Your own body, and the area you want to cover, may differ.
Can I use it on my phone?
Yes. The layout adapts to small screens, and you can drag the outline with your finger.
